Louis CK – Life’s Not Fair

I love this, via a friend who shared it on Facebook:

Daughter (I presume): Why does she get one, and not me?

Louis: You’re never gonna get the same things as other people. It’s never going to be equal. It’s not gonna happen ever in your life so, you must learn that now, okay?

Louis: Listen. The only time you should look in your neighbor’s bowl is to make sure they have enough. You don’t look in your neighbor’s bowl to see if you have… as much as them.

We all think we want life to be fair. Usually it is really more a matter of wanting ourselves to have as much as everyone else. It’s important to realize for ourselves and to teach children that life isn’t fair, that usually the people asking that question are the ones with immense privilege, and the best way to make it fair is to give out of what you have to those with less.
